From free beta to built-in add-on
If you read about TradingView's "AI Chart Copilot" earlier this year, a few things are now different. The short version: it now lives inside TradingView and costs extra, and there's a new official way to plug other AI assistants, like Claude, into your TradingView account.
| When (2026) | What happened |
|---|---|
| 2 April | AI Chart Copilot launched as a free public beta: a browser extension for Chrome and other Chromium browsers, with daily usage caps. |
| 16 September | TradingView opened its official MCP server in beta, letting assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT read TradingView data and manage your alerts and watchlists. Included with Essential and above. |
| 28 September | AI Copilot arrived inside Supercharts as a paid add-on for Essential, Plus, Premium and Ultimate plans, on the web and desktop app. TradingView says the old extension is no longer actively supported and will eventually be discontinued. |

Looking for AI Screener? It builds filters inside a screener and has different access rules from the Copilot add-on. Read our dedicated AI Screener guide for setup and six sample prompts.
What AI Copilot can do
The big difference from a general chatbot: Copilot sees the chart you have open and works with TradingView's own data (quotes, indicators, financials, news, earnings, economic calendars and the Screener). And it doesn't just talk. It can change your chart, draw on it and set alerts for you.
Set up charts
Change symbol, timeframe, layout, indicators and theme from one sentence.
Draw and mark up
Support and resistance, chart patterns, and structure such as order blocks and fair value gaps.
Technical analysis
Trend across timeframes, key levels, RSI divergences and moving-average signals.
Fundamentals & news
Revenue, margins, valuation against the sector, debt, cash flow, analyst estimates and headlines.
Trade plans
Structured plans with entry, stop, targets and position size, combining charts and fundamentals.
Pine Script
Writes indicators and strategies, applies them to the chart and helps read backtest results.
Screeners
Plain-English scans across stocks, crypto, ETFs and bonds, including your saved screens.
Alerts & watchlists
Creates single and multi-condition alerts and manages them, and builds, renames and fills watchlists.
Set it up in five minutes
- Get a paid TradingView planCopilot needs Essential, Plus, Premium or Ultimate. TradingView says a trial plan works too. Start through our TradingView link.
- Open any chartUse the website or the desktop app. Copilot isn't in the phone apps yet.
- Click the AI Copilot iconIt's in the right-hand panel of Supercharts.
- Click "Get access" and check outIt's a monthly add-on on top of your plan. Access starts as soon as payment goes through, and you can cancel any time in your profile settings.
- Ask "What can you do?"Then tell it about yourself once per chat: your experience, the markets you trade and your timeframe. Answers get much more useful.
What does it cost? TradingView's own pages don't publish a price, and it may vary by region. Two independent sites reported an offer of $7.50 a month in late September 2026, on top of your plan. Check the checkout screen in your account. TradingView also hands out one-off 30-day promotional trials of the add-on to some accounts; you can't buy one, and it simply expires unless you upgrade.

Build your first prompt
TradingView's own tips: name the ticker with a dollar sign (like $AAPL), say the timeframe, start simple and add detail. Pick a job below and we'll write the prompt for you.
Copilot prompt builder
Change any option and the prompt updates. Then copy it into AI Copilot.
Analyse $AAPL on the daily chart.
The prompt playbook
The first three come straight from TradingView's help pages. The rest are ours, written to make Copilot a better teacher and a tougher critic.
Add EMA 50 and EMA 200, RSI 14, and MACD on the chart.
Create a watchlist "AI and Semiconductors" with NVDA, AMD, TSM, ASML, AVGO, and SMCI.
Find S&P 500 stocks with P/E below 15 and revenue growth above 10%.
I'm new to charts. Explain everything currently on this chart, one item at a time, in plain English. For each indicator, tell me what it measures and what it's saying right now.
Compare the trend on the weekly, daily and 4-hour charts for this symbol. Do they agree? If they don't, which timeframe should a swing trader respect most, and why?
When is this company's next earnings report? Summarise what analysts expect, how the stock moved after the last four reports, and the main risks in recent news. Flag any figures that might be out of date.
List all my active alerts in a table with symbol, condition and when each was created. Suggest which ones look stale because price has moved far away, but don't delete anything until I confirm.
Usage limits and tips
- A monthly allowance, shown as a percentage. TradingView says most people won't reach it. Unused allowance doesn't roll over, and right now you can't top up once it runs out (TradingView says it's working on that).
- Heavy jobs cost more. Pine Script writing and complex analysis use the most. A long-running request uses more than a quick one.
- One request at a time per chat. A new question waits until the current one finishes.
- It can be wrong or out of date. TradingView itself says Copilot "is an assistant, not an advisor". Check any figure you'd act on.
- No phone app yet. Web and desktop only, for now.
👍 Great for
- Learning to read charts on real examples
- Saving clicks: setups, drawings, alerts, watchlists
- First drafts of Pine Script
- Quick fundamentals and news round-ups
- Stress-testing your own trade ideas
👎 Don't use it for
- Telling you what to buy
- Predicting prices or "sure things"
- Running code you haven't read or backtested
- Replacing your own risk rules
- Big decisions on unchecked numbers

AI Copilot or Claude + TradingView?
TradingView's official MCP server lets an outside assistant, such as Claude, use your TradingView data. So which should you use? Often both: they're good at different things.
| AI Copilot | Claude via MCP | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it lives | Inside your TradingView chart | In Claude (web, desktop, mobile) or Claude Code |
| Cost | Paid add-on on Essential and above | Included with Essential and above (not trial plans), plus your Claude plan |
| Sees your open chart | Yes | No. It works with data, not your screen |
| Draws, changes layouts, writes Pine Script onto the chart | Yes | No (not in the beta toolset) |
| Market data, screener, news, fundamentals, calendars | Yes | Yes (35 tools in total) |
| Alerts and watchlists | Yes, including multi-condition alerts | Yes, but simple price alerts only, and no webhooks |
| Best for | Working on the chart in front of you | Longer research, reports, and mixing market data with your own notes and files |
Connect Claude to TradingView
- In Claude, open Settings → ConnectorsChoose "Add custom connector".
- Paste the server address
https://mcp.tradingview.com/mcp, then click Add. - Sign in with TradingViewIt uses your normal account login, so there are no API keys to copy around.
- Turn on approvals for changes10 of the 35 tools can create, change or delete alerts and watchlists. Ask Claude to confirm before any of those.
Using TradingView, go through my watchlist "Core holdings". For each symbol, give me this week's price change, any earnings or dividend dates in the next 14 days, and the most important headline. Put it in a table, then list anything that needs my attention. Read only: don't change any alerts or watchlists.

Before you let AI touch your account
Neither Copilot nor the MCP server places trades. But alerts can feed trading bots through webhooks, and AI can make mistakes. Tick off what you've done.

Frequently asked questions
Is TradingView AI Copilot free?
Not any more. The free extension beta has been replaced by a built-in add-on that you buy on top of a paid plan (Essential or higher). Some accounts get a one-off 30-day promotional trial from TradingView.
Can I use it on the free Basic plan?
No. TradingView lists Essential, Plus, Premium and Ultimate as eligible. The charts themselves are still free on Basic.
What happens to the old Chrome extension?
TradingView says it's no longer actively supported and will eventually be discontinued. Use the Copilot icon in the chart's right-hand panel instead.
Can AI Copilot place trades for me?
No. It analyses, draws, writes scripts and manages alerts and watchlists. Trading is still up to you. Our AI trading guide explains how automation works and where the risks are.
Does it work on my phone?
Not yet. It's on the TradingView website and desktop app.
Should I use Copilot or Claude?
Copilot for working on the chart in front of you; Claude (through TradingView's MCP server) for longer research and reports. Many traders will happily use both.
A genuinely useful co-pilot, if you keep your hands on the controls
Moving Copilot into the chart was the right call: it's faster to reach and can now actually do things, from drawing levels to building watchlists. Paying extra for it is a fair ask if you use TradingView most days. If you're new, start with the free charts, learn the basics with our 7-day course, and add Copilot when you want a tutor on tap.
I asked Copilot to draw support under my food bowl. It drew a line, set an alert, and politely declined to predict dinner. Honest, helpful, and never pounces on a candle too early. Unlike me.
