What is TradingView?
TradingView is a charting, analysis and social platform for financial markets. Open it in any browser, the desktop app or on your phone and you can chart stocks, ETFs, crypto, forex, futures, indices and bonds from exchanges around the world โ then draw on the chart, add indicators, set alerts and share ideas with other traders.
It has become the default "second screen" for traders: many brokers even embed TradingView charts in their own apps. TradingView says more than 100 million traders and investors use it.
In one sentence: TradingView gives you professional-grade charts for free โ and the AI Copilot add-on turns them into a conversation.

AI Copilot: an analyst in your side panel
TradingView's AI assistant started life in April 2026 as a free browser-extension beta called AI Chart Copilot. Since 28 September 2026 it's built into the charts as AI Copilot, a paid add-on. It opens in a panel next to your chart and already knows the symbol and timeframe you're viewing, so you can ask questions in plain English without explaining your setup first.
- Watch whether support holds on pullbacks
- Want me to set an alert if price closes below it?
Illustration created by AI Lens to show the workflow โ not a real market or real Copilot output.
What it can do
- Analyse the open chart โ trend, momentum, key levels and what your indicators are saying.
- Explain indicators and patterns in plain language, at whatever level you ask for.
- Create and manage alerts and automate chart actions for you.
- Scan watchlists and use the Screener to find symbols that match your idea.
- Pull relevant news and market context for the symbol you're viewing.
- Draw on your chart: support and resistance, patterns, and levels to watch.
- Read, explain, write and debug Pine Script.
What it costs now. AI Copilot is a monthly add-on for paid plans (Essential and up), on the website and desktop app but not yet the phone apps. TradingView doesn't publish the price on its help pages; independent sites reported $7.50 a month in late September 2026. There's a monthly usage allowance, and the old Chrome extension is being phased out. Testers have found AI-written Pine Script inconsistent, so check code before relying on it. Our step-by-step AI Copilot guide covers setup, prompts and limits.
Analyse any chart in seconds
This is where the Copilot shines for everyday use. Instead of squinting at five indicators, ask it to summarise the picture โ then drill down. Because it sees your chart, follow-ups like "what about on the weekly?" just work.
Summarise this chart: the current trend, the key support and resistance levels, and what RSI and volume suggest. Then tell me which levels would invalidate that view.
Set an alert if price closes above the most recent swing high, and another if it closes below the support level you identified.
Scan my watchlist and list the symbols trading above their 50-day moving average with RSI between 50 and 70. Explain why each one qualifies.
Write Pine Script without being a programmer
Pine Script is powerful but has a learning curve. The Copilot can write, explain and debug indicators and strategies: describe what you want, let it draft the code, add it to the chart, and ask it to fix any errors the editor reports.
Write a Pine Script v6 indicator that plots a 20 and 50 EMA, colours the background green when the 20 is above the 50 and red when below, and marks crossovers with small arrows. Add inputs so I can change both lengths. Comment every section so I can learn from it.
My script shows this compile error: [paste error]. Explain what it means in simple terms, then give me the corrected code.
Pro tip: for longer or trickier scripts, pair the Copilot with Claude. Claude is excellent at explaining code line by line and reasoning about edge cases โ then paste the result back into TradingView's Pine Editor to test it.
Your personal technical-analysis teacher
Our favourite use. Ask the Copilot to act as a teacher and it will explain concepts using the real chart in front of you โ far more memorable than a textbook diagram. You can ask "dumb" questions, request quizzes, and go at your own pace.
Act as a patient technical-analysis teacher. I'm a complete beginner. Using the chart I have open, teach me one concept at a time, starting with candlesticks. After each concept, ask me a question to check I understood before moving on.
A 7-day starter course you can run with the Copilot
Open any liquid chart (a major index or large-cap stock works well) and ask the Copilot to teach each topic on it:
Candlesticks
Open, high, low, close โ and what bodies and wicks tell you.
Trends
Higher highs, lower lows, and drawing your first trend line.
Support & resistance
Why price reacts at certain levels, and how to mark them.
Moving averages
SMA vs EMA, crossovers, and using them as dynamic support.
RSI & momentum
Overbought, oversold and the idea of divergence.
Volume
Confirming breakouts and spotting weak moves.
Risk management
Position sizing and stop-losses โ then practise it all in paper trading.

Frequently asked questions
Is TradingView free?
Yes. The Basic plan is free forever with no time limit. Paid plans add more indicators, alerts, layouts and data features, and come with free trials.
Is the AI Copilot free?
Not any more. The free beta extension has been replaced by a built-in add-on for paid plans (Essential and up), sold separately. Some accounts get a one-off 30-day promotional trial. More in our AI Copilot guide.
Can the AI tell me what to buy?
No โ and you shouldn't want it to. The Copilot is a tool for analysis and learning. It can describe trends, levels and indicators, but markets are uncertain and no AI can predict them reliably. Make your own decisions and manage your risk.
Do I need to know how to code to use Pine Script?
Not anymore. You can describe an indicator in plain English and have the Copilot draft it. Learning the basics still helps you spot mistakes, and the Copilot can teach you as you go.
Does it work on mobile?
TradingView's apps work on iOS and Android and sync with the web. AI Copilot works on the website and desktop app, but isn't in the phone apps yet.
Should you use TradingView?
If you look at markets at all, yes. TradingView's charts are the best in the business, and the free plan alone is remarkably capable. The AI Copilot costs extra, but it's a genuine upgrade: quick chart summaries, alerts set in plain English, Pine Script help, and โ best of all โ a tireless teacher that explains technical analysis on real charts.
Start free, work through the 7-day Copilot course, and add AI Copilot to a paid plan when you want a tutor and analyst on tap.
The AI Copilot taught me what a candlestick is (sadly, not a candle). Brilliant charts, patient teacher. Just remember: I'm a cat, not a financial adviser.
